Over time we may start to see lines from the border of the lips, particularly the upper lip, often extending up vertically. Quite often referred to as smokers lines, despite these lines being given this name and common thinking that this is the main factor, these lines are also due to volume loss with age and the repetitive pursing of the lips. Smoking however is known to be a contributory factor.

Common Queries Regarding This Procedure

Is it sore?

This is a very commonly asked question. A good application of our anaesthetic cream takes any discomfort away. The lip of course is a very sensitive area and we take extra caution to care for your comfort.

How long does the result last?

The procedure is repeated every 4-6 months to maintain your desired result. Although each individual can metabolise the Hyaluronic Acid Dermal filler product differently. Therefore some clients may get longer and others require a repeat treatment sooner than 6 months.

For whom is it not suitable?

People who suffer from
Hypertrophic or keloid scarring.
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Some auto-immune conditions
Blood coagulation disorders
A full medical history and assessment is carried out for every patient to ensure suitability for treatment.

Are there any cautions/ contra-indications?

Skin infections
Active acne breakouts
Cold sores
Please inform us if you are taking a course of Antibiotics or Steroids

Is it safe?

There is always a risk with any dermal filler procedure. The risk is significantly reduced when this treatment is carried out by an experienced practitioner who is trained in dealing with all complications that can arise.

In Scotland all registered Medical/Dental practitioners must be registered and inspected by Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
Only ever visit an HIS registered clinic.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Most common side effects are bruising, redness and swelling. The biggest risks occur from inexperienced injectors with poor knowledge of anatomy. Make sure you have these treatments in an HIS regulated clinic and ensure the practitioner is competent in dealing with complications and can dissolve the product if necessary with a Prescription Only Medicine called 'Hyalase'.

Aftercare

Do not do anything too strenuous or energetic on the day of treatment and refrain from touching or applying make-up because it increases risk of infection.

A cold compress is soothing and reduces heat and inflammation
