Common Queries Regarding This Procedure

How does it work?

This is a deeper peel. The acids have an affinity for fat cells and so travel through the outer layer of the skin into the mid dermis where fat cells are. The depth it reaches ensures it causes deeper stimulation of stem cells thus having a great effect on restoring the skin.

How long does it last?

Because the skin is always renewing itself, it is impossible to say how long the effects of the peel last. Good tailored home care products along with other rejuvenation treatments will certainly prolong the benefit. These peels can be carried out every 4 weeks, with a course lasting 3-4 treatments.

Who is it not suitable for?

No darker skin types.  It is only suitable for lighter skin.

Are there any cautions/contra-indications?

You must prepare the skin using glycolic acid cream – this gets the skin used to the acids and minimises post inflammatory pigmentation.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes – it enhances aesthetic injectable treatments. Stimulated skin improves the quality of the skin, thus improving the ‘canvas’ for injectable treatments to be more effective.

Is it sore?

It can feel hot although it is only on the skin for 2 minutes before it is neutralised and a fan is used to cool the skin throughout the procedure.

What is it used to treat?

Ageing sun damaged skin.

Are there any risks or side effects?

There is a risk of scarring if you ‘pick’ any flaking skin. You have to allow dry skin to shed naturally.

What is the recovery time?

Immediately after, the skin will be red with sometimes a frosty white appearance on some patches of the skin. Within 24 hours, redness will have resolved, and the skin will become dry and flaky over the next couple of days. Skin is usually fully recovered within 3-5 days

It is important to allow the skin to shed naturally.

Use products as directed by your clinician including daily SPF and avoiding direct sun for 4-6 weeks.
